The Cars

2 litre formula continental
the formula continental class was developed as a world “feeder class” to top formula such as Formula 1. engines and chassis are heavily regulated for competitive racing and cost containment. the cars, even with 150 hp engines, are capable of track speeds in excess of 140 mph. in many cases these cars are so fast through the turns they post lap times close to cars with five times as much horse power.
Engine
the formula continental class uses heavily regulated engines based on the carburated ford pinto / cortina 2.0L or ford zetec 2.0L. some modifications include a dry sump which helps in oil recover, ford performance cam shaft and blue printing which makes sure the motor is at its highest performance specification allowed by the rules.
Chassis
since 2007 ROBERTSHAW RACING has been using the british made van diemen ff2000 chassis. the chassis is a tube steel construction with stressed bulkhead and under tray. the current chassis is a 1998 model. chassis’ from then to current model year offer little in design change other than track width and suspension. our car has been brought forward with all competitive updates, modifications and improvements and is up to 2009 specifications.
Gear Box
the gear box is mandated by the formula continental class regulations and is a hewland ld 200 4-speed trans-axle. this gear box is a dog type engagement and designed for easy gear changes to optimise performance at all tracks.
Aerodynamics and Body Work
most of the non performance related body panels are van diemen fiberglass panels. aero dynamic components are either race proven or prototype components from pennon composites. all the aero on our car is custom made, black, vacuum bagged epoxy fibre glass. pennon components include an aluminum honeycomb-core rear diffuser, a rear diffuser pump, fully adjustable lower rear wing, upper main plain and independant adjustable rear upper flap, one piece high efficiency nose with splitter, front wing with flaps, end plates, ramps and vortex shoes. from time to time you will even see a few other trick bits in development.
1.3 litre Pro Formula Mazda (Twin Rotor Renesis 13B Rotary)
also designed as a feeder series to higher formulas such as indy car / GP3. a carbon fiber tub, carbon wings, traction control, no lift sequential shift, fuel managment sytems are some of the build features of this race car. Wickedly fast and nimble, these 220 horsepower race cars are a handfull to say the least and are capable of reaching top speeds in excess of 155 mph!
Engine
the mazda 13B twin rotor engine measuring in at 12″ wide, 12″ tall and 18″ long is an unbeleivable powerhouse putting out in excess of 220 horsepwer. reliable for as many as 7000 plus race and test miles, this engine is a race teams delight to own and operate. reliable and durable this engine is controlled by the motec ecu and has 3 moving internal parts per rotor. a dry sump oil system is applied to the basic engine structure but other than that it is the same engine found in the mazda rx8. when raced in a spec series all engines are sealed and supplied by star mazda out of California.
